S8146 - East Barr

HISTORY

Pillar completed 12th February 1955 costing £18.7s.6d. Flush bracket S8146 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in February 1956. Computed by Distomat survey as tertiary triangulation station NX56/DM/T21 within the Kirkcudbright secondary block during 1958. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in July 1976.

 

SITE VISIT

Barr Hill. Open grazing top. The pillar is in good condition. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces south, compass measurement 176°. Vented through the back (north) sight hole. The views include Inshanks.
