S5857 - Goyle Hill

HISTORY

Pillar completed 28th April 1950 costing £13.18s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NO89/T33 within the Abedeen secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1950. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in July 1973.

 

SITE VISIT

Good free public car park at NO696798 just west of Drumtochty Castle. Followed the mapped track network all the way to summit. The pillar is in good condition. The spider retains an OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket S5857 faces southeast, compass measurement 141°. Vented through the right (NE) sight hole. The 315° panoramic view spans from east clockwise round to northeast. The remainder is lost to woods.
