HISTORY

Pillar built in February 1948 costing £10.1s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE02/T24 during 1949. Levelled for height to first class precision at tertiary standards in October 1956. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979.

 

SITE VISIT

Ascended from northwest having walked via Knowl Moor and Hailsorm Ridge. Parked SW side of Edenfield Road (A680) at SD830159. From Hailstorm Ridge via Rooley Moor Road (track on the Pennine Way) SE to SD866165 then SW SD862161 to track junction for a direct ascent. Open moor mapped as access land. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with asphalt. Flush bracket faces SSW, compass measurement 198°. All sight holes open, innards blocked with debris. Full 360° panoramic view.
