G1141 - Bishop's Bridge

Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52).

Flush bracket G1141 was used during the second geodetic levelling of Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 288.4560 feet [87.9214 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Glen Almond to Auchterarder levelling line. Geodetic line G.234, levelled during 1946. The surveyor's description was W face of wall of bridge, E side of road, over S bank of stream.

 

There is no record of the marker being used during any later levelling surveys. It is not listed on the OS Online Archive despite its continued existence at the location described.

 

SITE VISIT

Public access, safe northbound parking beyond bridge. On bridge parapet facing road. Numbers just above raised surface level. Numbers needed cleared of grit to make readable. FB otherwise in good condition.
