S5399 - Sellet Hall

HISTORY

The pillar was built in May 1949 costing £8.16s.3d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD47/T47 within the Barrow-in-Furness secondary block during 1950. Flush bracket S5399 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in 1970. This pillar station was last maintained by the OS in June 1976.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from northeast. Good layby on northwest side of B6254 by bend at SD607774. Up via mapped right of way through Sellet Mill to high point then due south direct to summit. Grazing top. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces WNW, 285°. Vented through sight hole on FB face. Full 360° open outlook to surrounding countryside and westerly Dales.
