SD836780, LR98.

HISTORY

Pillar completed 8th October 1949 costing £19.13s.8d. Computed as secondary station SD96/4 withi the Skipton block, and levelled to second class precision during 1951. Routine maintenance by the Ordnance Survey was last undertaken in July 1976. This marker was later visited by the OS on 30th November 1994.

SITE VISIT

Three trig circuit starting and finishing near High Green Field. Probably best to park outside (derelict) Far Barn at SD835796. There is no suitable parking offered any further up this public road, and doing so will result in a politely worded note attached to windscreen. Followed road and bridleway to access land at SD817777, then east to ridge of hill and NE to summit. The pillar is in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. The flush bracket faces NNW, compass measurement 331°. Vented through back (SE) sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view. Continued to Cave Hill, and Low Green Field Lings. Returned to car to find handwritten note affixed informing that this meadow is private, of SSSI status, and not to park there again.
