HISTORY

Pillar completed 15th January 1947 costing £44.13s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ42/43 within the Middlesborough block, and levelled to second class precision during 1948. Last maintained by the OS in June 1984.

 

SITE VISIT

Overall approach from west. Small car park at SE855986, also used for Simon Howe. Off A169 onto mapped RoW east from Eller Beck Bridge following network of paths and tracks to top. Heather clad moor. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces WNW, ~289°. Vented through SE sight hole. 360° open outlook. View to SW includes RAF Flyingdales. Look out for NPFB 11312 on Eller Beck Bridge.
