I understand the portrait view is different from Cindy Shermans landscape style but I thought it was effective in this image because of the contrast of horizontal lines on the door. Also I wanted the focus to be more on what happening with the character in relation to that door and not about the surroundings. A good point about this photo is it could tell a lot of stories.
