The Hidden Madin

Regency House, Birmingham. From the Hagley Road the building appears to consist of Victorian terraced houses, however these were almost completely rebuilt in 1971 with John Madin designing an extended office building which replaced almost everything except the original facade.

It's only really when you take a walk along Duchess Place when you realise this, with the rear of the building being a typically Brutalist design.

Empty and abandoned for some time, the building will disappear shortly, with the site and other neighbouring office blocks being demolished and replaced by the proposed Garden Square development.
