Week 2 Word Associations Leaving Day (2013)
Week 2 Word Associations
What words or qualities come to mind: (This one was pretty specific and literal) Cold, scary, happy, sad, dreams, ambition, beginning, completion, job well done, my boy, pride & joy, long road, horizon, wide open, future, sky's the limit, walk away, Lots' wife, don't look back, serpents, danger, sailor, navigation, stars, explorer, brave new world, determination, creative, strong, buddy, friend, "what if", endos, stunts, tricks, mischief, be still wild thing, partner in crime.
How does the image make me feel: grateful, sad, selfish, excited, in awe, humble.
Does the image tell a story that relates to something going on in your life: This story IS my life. The boy IS my life. I was introduced to the location by a very special woman who has since passed away. I am forever grateful that she gave me this place. It is vast yet intimate. A place of squalls and storms and sharks, and yet the place where I feel safest. On this day I was taking this boy, my boy to Fullsail University where he would study film (that's my boy!). But since old Florida girls don't do anything the regular way, we took the backroads stopping at every park and any place where a great photo might live. We invented "drive by shooting" that day - taking photos through the window of our moving vehicle. Every bridge crossing must be recorded, it was a rule.
My goal in life was to raise a strong, independent, thoughtful, creative man. I succeeded and immediately had to let him go.
When I look at this image now I see the boy that raised me right back.
And if I am missing him, or my friend, or looking for myself, I only need to go this spot (in person or in the photo) and I can find us all there.
