M7 (NGC 6475), known as Ptolemy's Cluster
M7 (NGC 6475), known as Ptolemy's Cluster

The open cluster M7 (NGC 6475), known as Ptolemy's because it was reported by the Greek astronomer in the 2nd century.
Messier 7 is nestled between dark clouds and dense star fields between Scorpius and Sagittarius.
At the center right is NGC 6453, a strongly reddened globular cluster.
Toward the lower left is Trumpler 30, a rather faint and scattered open cluster. Other objects and some planetary nebulae, including PN Hf 2-1.
The region rises very little from my site (just 15° at the meridian transit), therefore it is considerably affected by atmospheric absorption.
