Crewe South, 70054 Dornoch Firth

The long winter of 1963 when snow lay on the ground for months sees a former Holbeck "Britannia" - I was used to seeing three at that Leeds shed (70044/53/54) and didn't know they had been transferred to Crewe the previous year - a 15yr-old's pocket money did not stretch to the railway magazines!

 

And here they all were, mucky but still magnificent. Note the ex-LNWR G2 in the background. 1-1-63.
