Golden eagle / Aquila chrysaetos patrolling the seaward slopes of Beinn Tianavaig near Portree on the Isle of Skye

Recent surveys reckon there are 508 pairs of golden eagles in Scotland, an increase of 15% since the last survey in 2004, with the highest concentrations in the Western Highlands. Always exciting to see these magnificent birds and one of the reasons we love Scottish mountaineering.
