Stranger 20 0f 100 - Jessica

This picture is #20 in my 100 strangers project.

As I entered Thompkins Square Park in the heart of Manhattan's Alphabet City neighborhood, I saw a group of black clad performers. I heard someone say, loudly, "What is gravity?" After that I just had to sit and watch for awhile.

They did several scenes and in between they talked and laughed with one another. That they liked each other was obvious. After watching for some time, I finally approached them and addressed the whole group, seeking a volunteer for the project. Jessica quickly volunteered. I shot her picture right where she sat. This one I wanted to be a "found" image -- as authentic as possible.

Jessica, obviously a people person, asked more questions about 100 Strangers than many of my other subjects. Her enthusiasm for her troupe made me smile. They are the Living Theater, a pacifist anarchist theater group dating back to 1947. Look them up in Wikipedia or on their website for more info. Thanks Jessica for being awesome. The world needs more awesome.
