Midlife Crisis: A Marble Oil Painting

This painting was prompted by a conversation I had with a relative who turned 40 last year. I choose marble painting as the technique to depict her state of mind at her current stage of life, something popularly known as a mid-life crisis. The colors are used here to connote her various thoughts. White represents her peaceful and tranquil mind, which is overlapped by flowing contrasting Blue, and Yellow colors, creating shades of Grey, which have blotches of Black representing the negative thoughts that leave stains in our minds. The blue indicates her recent thoughts related to her work which occupy her mind and the yellow seen sparsely conveys the depleting ‘sunshine’ in her life that she often talks about .The dull grey reflects the uncertainty in her life which she seems most worried of. Thus the painting is the depiction of the mysterious thoughts, which are unseen to those around us but reside in our mind and squirm around, merging into one another ever so continuously.
