Dubrovnik, Franciscan Monastery
The Franciscan Monastery is situated at the very beginning of the Placa to the left of the Pile Gate. The Franciscan order arrived in Dubrovnik around 1234 and the first monastery was built in the 13th century. This monastery was demolished in 1317 due to the threat of war to prevent the use by the enemy. The new monastery, inside the city walls, was constructed in the same year, 1317.
