Former Little Chef - Whitley Wood

The former Little Chef at Whitley Wood near Reading.

The branch first opened between 1972 and 1976 and seemed to be a good place to eat for those coming in and out of Reading and for those long distance travellers heading towards the nearby M4. Bit of history for you now! In the 1990s, a few Little Chef restaurants, one of which was Whitley Wood, recieved a pretty distinctive refurbishment in order to try and attract more evening diners to these particular branches. These restaurants were given softer lighting, new furniture, new carpets, air conditioning and a newly refurbished kitchen etc. but the most distinctive feature of this refurbishment scheme was the blue branding on the front of the buildings. The blue branding seemed to stand out to passing traffic and blue branded branches like Whitley Wood helped to attract more custom to the restaurants. It certainly worked a treat! Sadly though, the Whitley Wood restaurant closed in 2002 and after being derelict for a long time, it was finally demolished in late 2014. It is said that houses are to be built on the site of the old Little Chef
