Forward Flow

SET 1 – HLT Remodel: 3-11-2023

One last shot for this set, and of course, it’s yet another view of the emptied-out sporting goods area along the back wall (our final look at it, so y’all can breathe a sigh of relief, haha!). I do like how this more drawn-back angle shows you a very interesting detail in the store’s P97 design: notice how the red neon “flows” (for lack of a better term) rightward, while the yellow neon pushes in the opposite direction. I believe I’ve discussed before how the angling of the neon was likely intentional, to help push and pull shoppers in Target’s desired direction throughout the salesfloor… but I’m not sure I’ve ever captured the dichotomy quite so obviously in one image before. (The reason these two colors “flow” different directions is most likely so that the neon on the two side walls of the store would be flowing the *same* direction – towards the back of the store – therefore subliminally keeping customers within the building, rather than “pushing” them toward the front, where the exit is.)

More from here soon, so stick around for that! In the meantime, up next – continuing onwards with our pre-remodel script décor tour of the Madison Colony Crossing Kroger

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
