Colors of Sahel
The Fulani people, are a large ethnic group spread across multiple countries, mainly in West and Central Sahel.
They are one of the most widely dispersed and culturally diverse groups in Africa.
Traditionally, the Fulani are transhumant herders, and they remain so, for the most part, even if gradually a certain number of them have become sedentary, both because of the constraints imposed on them by the progress of desertification in certain regions and because some governments have set up programmes aimed at settling the nomads.
The vast majority of them are Muslim, and their culture is rich and diverse. They are known for their traditional music, dance, and oral traditions, which include storytelling and poetry.
The Fulani people also have a distinctive clothing style, often characterized by flowing robes and intricate embroidery.
Fulani society is traditionally organized into a hierarchical social structure. Elders and community leaders hold considerable influence.
