The recruitment and retention of driving staff has proven to be a challenge for bus and coach operators in recent years, leading to either reductions in service levels and / or the temporary employment of agency staff to try to retain existing levels. Several of the major operators have upped their game by mounting extensive advertising campaigns, effectively using their vehicles as mobile billboards, and expanding their driver training schools.
Stagecoach in South Wales has taken both approaches and has a training fleet which comprises six elderly Transbus and Alexander Dennis Darts, and more recently, a pair of 60-plate Alexander Dennis Enviro300s. All carry a new version of driver training livery based upon the current corporate scheme.
Dart 34746 is based at Porth depot and is from a large batch of 29 that transferred from Merseyside in 2009 to replace mostly older Darts at the depot, and is captured in Cardiff Street, Aberdare in May 2023.
