Roma - Mattatoio

Testaccio | Piazza Orazio Giustiniani

The former slaughterhouse in Rome, currently called Mattatoio di Testaccio, was originally a complex of pavilions on the slopes of Monte dei cocci used for slaughtering and distributing meat destined for the capital.

The slaughterhouse was decommissioned in 1975. Since then, the complex, considered one of the fundamental pieces of Roman industrial archeology, has undergone several renovations in its various parts, has hosted temporary events and new functions permanently established within the old pavilions.
