Beat Frequencies (1/2)

In this demonstration, the two tuning forks are hit and vibrate at their natural frequency, resulting in constructive interference and a loud sound. One tuning fork is then adjusted slightly, giving it a different frequency (but very close.) The effect is remarkable: it gets louder and quieter and louder and quieter.

 

This is called beats, and I explain in the video where it comes from and will on the next slide as well.
