If anyone is crazy enough to, oh say try and link a Rolling Stones song to a Mendip quarries rail movement then 66540 'Ruby' is an obvious candidate. ne's pais?. Well, I have five images of 66540, two are on Freightliner container workings ironically both taken at Battens bridge at Bathampton (on different dates), the other three are all on Mendip empties (not loaded so not really fitting the 'Rolling Stones-Stones Rolling' narrative) and all taken on a Thursday(!) - but here's one of them anyway.
In some very weak sunshine at Witchcombe farm bridge, Freightliner's 66540 Ruby drags 6C58 11:45 Oxford Banbury Road to Whatley Quarry empties away from Great Cheverell.
The 1967 release 'Ruby Tuesday' was a double A-side (remember those pop-pickers?) with 'Let's Spend the Night Together'.
