Common Pochard / aythya ferina. Straws Bridge, Derbyshire. 05/01/26.

 

A drake Pochard that had just resurfaced, demonstrating the consequences of feeding in the soft mud at the bottom of a lake. The mud mask really accentuated his red eyes.
