During the Vietnam war, although not even officially party to it, Laos was the world's most bombed place. A large percentage of the bombs dropped by the U.S. Air Force were duds and this unexploded ordnance (UXO) still kills and maims many people every year and prevents clearing of new agricultural land. A major international operation to clear the UXO has been ongoing for years.
