Gstadt | Germany 2024
Gstadt-Gollenshausen is located directly opposite the Fraueninsel on the banks of Lake Chiemsee and includes the two districts of Gstadt and Gollenshausen as well as another 13 small hamlets and wastelands.
The first tourists were pilgrims (since around 1168), because the location has always offered convenient "towns" for a short crossing to the Fraueninsel. The destination was the Frauenwörth monastery from the 8th century with the highly revered first abbess and patron saint Irmengard. Today's guests make a "pilgrimage" to Gstadt to also visit the island and the small, attractive "Hofanger" nature park with its medicinal plant garden. The beautiful view of the expanse of the lake, the Chiemsee islands with the steamers passing by, and the Alpine chain, which has been painted, photographed and described countless times, can be seen from the "Ganszipfel" observation tower.
