3472r Horwich Parkway Western Footbridge

Please note that whilst the line travels generally SE-NW from Manchester to Preston, it runs E-W (at one point even slightly 'the wrong way' - ENE-WSW) along the valley bottom through Horwich Parkway,

By the wind turbine at the far western end of the station car park stands this bridge. It has what appear to be original piers topped with 20th Century blocks to raise a concrete deck and modern steel parapets. It carries an ancient Public Right of Way (PROW.) There is scant evidence of human footfall on its southern, 'country' side.

An image spanning the centuries. The original stone parapet end overlooks a FTPE Class 185 slowing for its Horwich stop with a service to Manchester Airport. In the background is the full station car park (I filled the very last slot) and Bolton Wanderers' football stadium. At track level an electrical mast base stands in readiness for steelwork.

Taken from the bridge's southern end, looking NE.
