Am 05.02.2018 war der sogenannte "Zirkeltag". Es war exakt 28 Jahre, zwei Monate und 26 Tage her, dass die Mauer fiel. Und genau so lange hatte die Mauer auch Berlin geteilt. Für dieses Foto der damals 7 Jahre alten Philharmonie auf der Westseite gleich hinter der Grenze hatte ich mich eigentlich strafbar gemacht, denn es war strengstens verboten, die Grenzanlagen zu fotografieren. Das Foto entstand in der damaligen Otto-Grotewohl-Straße (heute Wilhelmstraße, wie bis 1964). Das ganze Areal auf der westlichen Straßenseite durfte damals nicht betreten werden, erst in der zweiten Hälfte der 80-er Jahre wurden das Sperrgebiet bis auf einen schmalen Streifen aufgehoben und ein neues Wohngebiet gebaut. Der Hügel rechts überdeckt den sogenannten "Führerbunker". Leider waren in den 70-er Jahren die ORWO-Dia-Filme recht grobkörnig und meist braunstichig.
February 2, 2018, marked the day when 28 years, two months and 26 days had passed since the Berlin wall was opened, exactly the same time that it had divided the city. For this photo of the Philharmonic Hall (then 7 years old) on the West side immediately behind the border I had risked punishment. Taking photos of border installations was strictly forbidden. The photo was taken from the then Otto-Grotewohl-Straße (today Wilhelmstraße as before 1964). The entire area behind the West sidewalk of the street was sealed off by fences. As late as the second half of the 1980s the forbidden area was reduced in size in order to build a new residential quarter. The small hill to the right covers the so called "Führer Bunker" of which no traces are left today. Unfortunately, in the 1970s, the ORWO slide films were coarse-grained and very often had a brown tint.
