Turning back the clock
On August 10th a DB Cargo freight train derailed in the Gotthard base tunnel, in the process tearing up about 6 km of track. As a result trains were rerouted, either to the mountain line or the Lötschberg route. The majority of freight traffic on the Gotthard axis are container and trailer trains which no longer fit through the old tunnel, so unfortunately despite the closure freight traffic on the old line was sparse compared to the old days. Nevertheless I made a short weekend trip to photograph the Gotthard revival. Luck would have it that a DBC freight followed closely behind the Gotthard Panorama express. For a short moment it felt all was right on the Gotthard once again.
