60163 Tornado Retford with the Winton Train
History repeating itself.
As a result of Sir Nicholas Winton's efforts in the months leading up to the outbreak of World War II in 1939, a total of seven locomotives transported 669 Czechoslovak children of mainly Jewish heritage from Prague to safety in Great Britain.
A framed print of this was presented to Sir Nicholas's Children.

I hope you are well, I’ve been looking at your website, some very good stuff there, both nature and railways.
I asked my contact at A1SLT if I could have a copy of the pic you recently took of Tornado at Retford on the White Rose, with the Czech flags on it.
The reason is that I organised the UK leg of the Winton Train in 2009 and I also organised a stop at Maidenhead (where Sir Nicholas lived) on July 8th during the Tornado’s scheduled ferry move from Southall to Bristol en route to its next job.
If possible I'd like to ask you for a a hi-res copy of your picture at Retford on the White Rose which I can get reproduced and framed as a present for Barbara and Nick, Sir Nicholas’s children. I had been tipped off and expected the Czech flags on the engine for the ferry move to Bristol, but was not expecting the engine to be carrying them on the White Rose public trip. I hope that you agree it would make a nice present for Sir Nicholas’s children.
Meanwhile, if I see a man with a tern on his head out there, I’ll be sure to introduce myself to you!
