The view from the office at lunchtime. Amid the constant passing of passenger trains I heard something which sounded a bit different, and sure enough it was the coal train from Tower Colliery near Aberdare, on its way to Cardiff and on to Margam. It normally travels via the City Line south of Radyr, arriving in Cardiff from the west, and then using the route through Barry and Bridgend. I'm guessing it was routed through Cathays today because the line via Barry to Bridgend was closed due to a coal train derailment. It therefore needed to approach Cardiff Central from the east so that it could run west on the South Wales main line to Margam.
