LoR Merchant's Guild A2: A Lenfel Affair
As soon as Leif conquered sea sickness, the minuscule bows of the 'Swan', Peter an Thomas's ship, scraped against Lenfel sands. Leif hadn't the slightest idea of where they were, but Peter and Thomas had at least commandeered the Swan into a small town, where they went directly to a storehouse on the dock. The merchant there was an amicable, fat man who was past his prime, but his door was guarded by two soldiers. Leif surveyed the room as he walked in, and determined that the men must have been in service of the local lord and had been hired by the merchant. Four more similarly-uniformed men guarded Leif's barrels outside. Leif was struck at once by the soft, organized feeling of the village. It looked much like villages all over Loreos. Peter and Thomas had convinced him on the voyage that Lenfald was a horrible place of savages and death, and they treated it as such. They constantly shot down the amicable merchant and belittled him, his men, and his village; even though he could have all three of their heads on a plate with the snap of his fingers. Leif realized something important that day. He was far less Loreesi than Peter and Thomas. He was, of course, born in Loreos; his father was a Loreesi merchant; and he would soon be the father of a Loreesi child, but he didn't identify as a Loreesi as much as his companions. He looked on, aghast, as Peter and Thomas chided the poor merchant, declining reasonable prices and raising their offer higher and higher as the merchant shot Leif sorry glances, as if he was used to this treatment. Eventually, a price was agreed, and Leif took his newfound fortune to the Swan and sailed away with Thomas and Peter feeling more Loreesi then ever.
