Typography

Recently I have been gaining an interest in and appreciation of the art of Typography, fonts, typefaces and all things typographical, as well as printing and book making in general.

This picture is of the last page of the Chris Abani book in the previous photo in my stream.

Most of us are not even aware of the difference between serif and san serif fonts and how each is used. As I look at this Flickr page, there are no serif fonts other than those in the picture above. (Oops. The Yahoo logo at the top left has serifs in its characters.) The main reason for that is apparently the displaying of serif fonts on a computer screen causes the font to be distorted.

If you Look At This Wikipedia Link you can quickly learn the difference between serif and san serif fonts and why the latter is used on computer displays. However, I think that with the advent of better computer screens (a la HD) we may begin to see serif fonts more on websites.
