Great Plains Skink

The largest of the skink species in Arizona, Great Plains Skinks (Plestiodon obsoletus) are found in a variety of habitats from middle to high elevation often associated with creeks, rivers, and other water features. These lizards are often very hard to observe as they spend much of their time beneath surface cover or underground. This is a large male individual that was found in Central Arizona within the Great Basin Conifer Woodland.
