Kitchen Table View
I've struggled so hard with this kitchen over the years and it's been through numerous changes and experiments.
Finally fitting the metro shelving underneath the cabinets to handle laundry, microwave, toaster, and fan (necessary to point at unseen fire alarm when cooking since there is no vent above the stove and the fire alarm is sensitive), and hanging pots made me really proud.
Obviously, clutter is still a problem.
Different shelves have been in the space behind the door, but we finally found a discarded thinner one that doesn't block the door when it opens and is good for holding cans and pantry items.
I'm really proud of the magnolia painting. My grandmother's friend painted it and gave it to me. I really think it adds to the kitchen.
The paper trays on the black metro shelving are the beginning of my attempts to use this kitchen table as a workspace, so that I no longer need to have a desk in my room. I know Karen Kingston advises on using the bedroom just for sleeping, and I was hoping I could concentrate better if my workspace was in the kitchen.
There is also poorly used space in the cabinets above which I thought might be used for the workspace papers and items.
The hanging reed/rafia-like basket holds cloth napkins. I know MGR says to always eat with a real napkin!
My Mom likes to put pictures of friends up on the cabinets.
The underhanging shelf basket underneath the table was my attempt at making a storage place for my Mom's papers that accumulate in this area, but she never empties it. It also bumps into our knees. From Azby Brown, I thought it would be really great to have a table with an entire second plane underneath to store utensils, reading material, etc., but I haven't managed to find or construct one yet.
One of my wants is to find a clear place, either in the kitchen or my bedroom, to place and enjoy the small lotus shaped crystal votive which can now barely be seen on the table. It is next to the round bowl of fruit which I like because my
grandmother made it in an intro pottery class. The votive is currently hidden behind the bag of nuts which is behind the book..
