Wearing my custom made Caribbean Mas Boots today. Wish I was there!

Shortly after last winter arrived, I decided it would be a good time to wear, and photograph my collection of boots. I decided to add all my high-top and medium high-top shoes and sneakers to that collection.

I'm going to post these photos in segments. This is the second batch, the most recent photos of the boot collection.

Since I'm way behind in putting photos up, I'm not going to comment too much on the individual pair, but if you have questions or comments, I'll try to answer them.

Some years ago, when visiting the Caribbean at Carnival time, I had these "mas boots" custom made for me. I was successful in getting the shoemaker to size them "comfortably snug", tighter than he originally suggested.

I never wore them when "playing mas", parading around town, as they have absolutely no arch support or cushioning. I like wearing shoes like that, as should be apparent here, but was concerned that wearing them while walking miles in one day might not be a good idea, so wore some comfortable sneakers.

But I've worn them on long hikes since then, and my feet seem to find them OK. And I have Caribbean friends who have worn mas boots like this all day every day for weeks on end. But these are the same friends who also walk barefoot sometimes on the streets of the city there on shards of broken bottles, seemingly without injury.
