Shoes 6-146

Desert Boots, size 6 1/2?

I bought these many, many years ago. They are not Clarks. Somewhat cheap look-alikes.

I wore them a lot, eventually the crepe soles wore through, and the leather innersoles after that. When the holes got really big, (and there were holes for most of my toes and the balls of my feet) I retired them.

A few years ago I saw them shortly before a trip to the Caribbean, and took them with me to get them resoled inexpensively. The shoemaker got rid of everything except the uppers, sewed on a new leather innersole, and a foam rubber sole like they use on sandals.

Unfortunately, the glue holding the foam soles on did not hold, and they peeled off in months. I tried wearing them with just the innersoles, they are comfortable, but the stitching holding the innersole to the upper began wearing down.

Recently I purchased an inexpensive sheet of tough but thin rubber, of the kind used on "rubber roofs". When I get time, I'm going to cut soles for these out of it and glue them on. They will be recycled again. If that works, I'm going to try that on some of the soleless sneakers with good uppers, to see how it works.
