Tablescape during dinner

We got a lot of positive feedback on the long narrow tables, and food served family-style. My family isn't good at mingling, so assigned seats took them out of their comfort zone (in a good way), and asking people to pass the various dishes forced them to talk to each other. Conversational tidbits in the placecard notes helped too, but the meal was specifically crafted as a mixer.

 

My in-laws go to a local diner for breakfast a couple times a week. We hired a few of the ladies there to put out and put away all the food. They were great, and it's fun to see them at breakfast now, they also felt part of the day and always ask how we're doing, when there will be a baby, etc. It's nice.
