The 50th Running of the Indianapolis 500 saw the last time a front engine Roadster competed in the race.

The 50 years between 1966 and 2016 with the 100th running of the race the development of both chassis, aerodynamics and engines was staggering from the venerable turbo charged 4 cylinder Offenhauser and Ford 255 cu-in DOHC V8 through the 1986 screaming Cosworth DFV/X, Judd and stock-block V8’s in March and Lola chassis to the Chevrolet and Honda V6’s engine that powered the one make Dallara chassis of 2016.
