Le plafond de la coupole devait être peint du "Palais du Soleil" par Charles Le Brun, représentant l'astre solaire avec l'emblème de Nicolas Fouquet, l'écureuil; ce dessin fut gravé par Audran, mais cette décoration ne fut pas réalisée, même si vers 1845 le duc de Choiseul-Praslin demanda au peintre-décorateur Dutenhoffer de chiffrer son exécution, mais la jugeant trop onéreuse, n'y donna pas suite.
Or, dans une déposition de cet artiste du 24 août 1847, publiée par P. de Vogue (op.cit. pp.16 et 17), celui-ci indique, alors que ce travail est souvent attribué à Charles Séchan, qui orna, entre autres salles de spectacle européennes, l'Opéra de Paris, y avoir peint l'actuel ciel - inachevé - où plane un aigle aux ailes déployées, entouré de cinq autres (effacés).

However, in a statement by this artist dated 24 August 1847, published by P. de Vogue (op.cit. pp.16 and 17), he indicates that, although this work is often attributed to Charles Séchan, who decorated, among other European theatres, the Paris Opera House, he painted the current sky - unfinished - in which an eagle with outstretched wings is hovering, surrounded by five others (erased).
