5-52 - Della - Centerport Beach

As I stated at the beginning of the year I want to show Della in some of our local surroundings. The North Shore of Long Island has many coves, inlets, harbors, and bays. The beaches vary from sandy to very rocky. This beach is about 10 minutes from our house and is a favorite of the dogs. It’s a great place to go for some nice afternoon light (unfortunately the sun disappeared while we were down there on this day). Not only do we have the beach here we also have some wonderful woods we can hike in right next to the beach. It’s a great place to see ducks, egrets and seagulls. I have even seen our local bald eagle here. It’s not the best beach for silhouette sunset shots. That beach is about ten minutes from our house in a different direction on a different harbor.

Unfortunately none of the beaches around here are dog friendly. If the park rangers are there they can give you a ticket. If you time it right you can usually avoid the rangers and if they stop you it’s best to be polite to them, apologize, leash your dog up and leave. Most of them are pretty nice and just give you a warning. It really is a shame the town can’t provide a dog friendly beach in the off season. I’m sure people would even pay a yearly fee to use it.
