The Bicester Military Railway came into existence to move war materials in and out of the three huge depots at Graven Hill, Arncott and Piddington. It soon became apparent, however, that the most effective way of moving the garrison troops required to work these facilities was on the railway itself. Basic passenger facilities were provided, and this is the platform at the vast Arncott Depot. Situated on a short 1 in 90 gradient and on a sharp curve, restarting a loaded train would have been a challenge, especially with the pressing need not to obstruct the adjacent level crossing. The platform is still in fair condition and the ballast on the formation remains in situ.
