I've cleaned and treated the leather toeclip straps with Brooks Proofhide. This keeps the leather from drying out, plus, water & sun from rotting the leather. Since my initial write, here, I've ordered some BMX pedals that the folks at Rivendell Bicycles recommend for touring. A trend is sweeping the touring industry/world where you don't use clip-in shoes/pedals, or toeclips like these, but simply use a comfortable pedal for whatever you're wearing. The reasoning behind it is you don't need to spin like a racer, on tour. Pedaling while touring is much more relaxed. In this I have to agree. Plus, you can wear ANY comfortable shoe you like. Makes sence to me. Thus, the spikeless BMX pedal was ordered. I'll show them later when they arrive. Oh! Another big plus is it's much easier to start pedaling again; no fussing for toeclips and pedals or trying to click-in on a steep grade. Sounds good.
