This is a photo if the Karamu house in Cleveland Ohio. The Karmau was settlement house founded by two Oberlin college students in 1915. The original name of the Karamu house was the Roaring Third and then was later named the Play House Settlement. After two name changes It was later named the Karamu house. The original purpose of the Karamu house was for people of all races,religions and economic backgrounds to come together and seek opportunities. Karamu house later became the base for many famous African American entertainers to express their artistic ability. The Karamu house is is important to the history of Ohio because is was one the many settlement houses started in Ohio for people of different racial groups and it was also founded on the morals and beliefs of Oberlin college which played a major role in the rights of African Americans. Karamu house is important to the history of Ohio education because this is where we begin to see the education and display of the arts not only from white Ohioans but also from African Americans. During this time we began to see the eduction of arts such as literature,dance ,painting and music.
