CVS, 14th Street and 5th Ave, Manhattan
This 9,000 sq. ft. CVS is located in the new 16-story University Center building of The New School in Greenwich Village at 14th Street and 5th Ave, just west of Union Square.
The New School's University Center building was constructed on the site of their former Albert List residence hall and is LEED-certified, with a striking (and controversial) glass and brass design meant to encourage social encounters and make what's going on inside the building a part of the larger city outside of the building. The staircases are traced in glass and "punched" into the outside of the building so that the flow of movement inside can be seen by a person standing on the street, and the CVS participates in this spectacle. The entire store is encased in glass which makes any goings-on inside the store visible from the sidewalk, removing some of the separation of a normal shop.
The CVS replaces ground-level retail at the former building, including Japan Express 2 camera shop and a T-Mobile store, as well as a few empty storefronts.
The store is open 24-7.
