250 Word Proposal
My current work on my art foundation diploma has encouraged me to try new techniques and thought processes when creating my art. My main art inspiration in most of my work is Salvador Dali, not always in the sense that I use surrealism, but the symbolism and double meanings found in his work. I enjoy creating work that encourages me to be open-minded about the way i express my messages and the way others to view my work. My work is often inspired by current affairs today, for example, part of my Drawing qualification was based around a chosen newspaper page I then had to respond to, looking at artists such as Melinda Tidwell. I also included the idea of consumerism in today’s world and the economic reasons behind it, looking at the artist Michael Landy. I also bring in personal influences, not only getting my inspiration from my everyday life such as people and music, as shown in the synesthesia project, but also from my own experiences, such as depression. For my identity project I focused on whether it was nature or nurture that causes depression, I was able to bring in some of my other interests such as science, bringing in artists like Gina Czarnecki and Damien Hirst. I begin a project by thoroughly researching and looking for contextual links. I test, experiment and develop my individual ideas throughout a project, testing materials and techniques. I review my own work throughout and I am always open to new influences and criticism from others. Having regular internal exhibitions in college, group critiques and keeping a professional blog of my work allows me to gain feedback and solve any problems I may be having.
