Department of Corrections, Bangkok. July 2009.

This shows the "mobile" equipment used to undertake executions by shooting. A team from Bang Kwang usually does the executions around Thailand if the person to be killed can;t make the trip down to Bangkok.

The cross on the right currently has garlands, flowers and offerings to the spirits postioned on it.

The person to be killed has their hands tied together with lotus flowers in between their palms (a Buddhist ritual) and then their arms are draped over the cross. Their body is strapped to the upright. To stop them struggling and to ensure the machine gun bullets enter as close to the heart as can be expected.

The frame on the left holds a sheet. And it is about the distance it would be from the orss in a live execution. Only a yard from the person's back. The sheet means the executioner doesn't have to look at the person to be machine gunned while they are pulling the trigger.

The executioner aims at a target pinned on the sheet, positioned so the bullets will continue on to hit the heart of the person strapped to the cross.

The stand with the machine gun on is about five more yards away from the sheet and frame, to the left.

On the floor is sand to stop the blood from going too far around the floor of the execution shed. And also the sand can hold candles and incense sticks.

The wall to the right is usually banked up with sandbags.
