Rose Still Life
Garden rose study, photographed close against a black background.
The pale petals are held in a narrow plane of light, with the front of the bloom carrying most of the sharp detail while the inner petals fall gradually into softer tones. I wanted the rose to feel less like a botanical record and more like a small sculptural form emerging from darkness.
Horseman 985 used as a 4×5 camera, 150mm lens, 1 second at f/35. Fomapan 100, developed for 8 minutes in D23r.
