Retarded Dagger

Despite its politically incorrect name, the Retarded Dagger (Acronicta retardata) is quite the handsome little fellow.

These vibrantly adorned little daggers are among the more rare and seldom seen Acronicta species in my neck of the woods.

They are listed as maple feeders. The few encounters I've witnessed in Maryland have been on Boxelder...one of the woodier maples.

(Thanks to LeAnn Batty for spotting this beauty)
