RGS 455 with 315 building pressure
Note the RGS "sunrise" herald painted on 463's tender for a September 2017 photo shoot organized by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Note also the remnants of the D&RGW "toilet seat" herald underneath the coal boards. When I asked one of the charter organizers if the old markings were purposely left partly visible, he said "yes." Apparently, based on their research, they believe that the re-lettering of D&RGW power could indeed have been done rather hastily and what you see may well be representative of how such engines looked at the time.
This image was captured during a September 2017 Rio Grande Southern re-enactment photo shoot, organized by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, and featuring K-27 Locomotive #463 repainted and re-lettered as her long-lost sister #455, one of several Mudhens which were leased or loaded by the Denver & Rio Grande Western to the Rio Grande Southern.
